A playful, tasteful still life symbolizing intimacy and sexual wellbeing

You may be here because…

  • You or a partner are struggling with desire, arousal, or orgasm
  • Sex has become a source of shame, anxiety, or avoidance instead of connection
  • You're recovering from sexual trauma, abuse, or manipulation
  • You and a partner have different levels of sexual desire and don't know how to talk about it

What is sex therapy?

Sex therapy is a specialized form of psychotherapy focused on sexual pleasure, intimacy, and function. It can address sexual shame, sexual dysfunction (such as erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation), low or high desire, sexual pain or discomfort, infidelity and trust issues, and desire discrepancy between partners.

These issues are far more common than people realize; most people experience at least one of them at some point, even if they never seek help. Sex therapy is also used to support survivors of sexual abuse, rape, or manipulation.

The goal is to help you improve sexual functioning, work through aversion or fear around sex, explore your sexual orientation and preferences, heal from sexual trauma, and feel confident and worthy in your own sexuality. Sex therapy does not involve any physical or sexual contact between therapist and client. It's talk-based work toward understanding and healing.

Common reasons people seek sex therapy

  • Low, absent, or mismatched sexual desire
  • Difficulty with arousal, orgasm, or sexual function
  • Sexual shame or anxiety around sex
  • Healing from sexual trauma or abuse
  • Wanting more intimacy, connection, or pleasure in a relationship
  • Exploring sexual orientation, kink, or non-monogamy alongside sex therapy

How SkyeBlu approaches this work

Sex therapy isn't just about having sex. It's about connection, healing, and joy. Sessions integrate sex therapy with Person-Centered (Rogerian) therapy, so you feel heard, respected, and accepted from the start.

We also draw on psychoanalytic ideas to notice patterns from your history, sometimes through art therapy, metaphor, or a sand tray, along with mindfulness and somatic (body-awareness) techniques. Homework between sessions may include sensate-focus and intimate-touch exercises to support progress outside of session.
