What is kink-friendly therapy?

Often, people with diverse sexual preferences feel alienated, embarrassed, or alone.

Kink-friendly therapy is all about learning to see your needs as normal and helping you discover healthy expressions of sexuality - which is why choosing a kink-aware therapist is so important.

Not all therapists understand, are trained in, or have experience with sexual diversity.

This is particularly true when it comes to BDSM and other stigmatized sexual preferences – some therapists may even see these needs as being wrong or pathological. Yikes!

Kink-aware therapists (like me!) recognize that sexual preferences fall on a spectrum, and that being kinky or preferring BDSM-play are normal parts of the spectrum. Other focuses of treatment might include:

  • Destigmatizing paraphilias and fetishes
  • Setting healthy boundaries
  • Increasing confidence and pleasure
  • Learning skills for communication of needs
  • Integrating your kink with your sense of self
  • Understanding safe, sane, and consensual practices
  • Navigating relationships where one person is kinky but the other is not (or unsure)
  • Support in exploring kink for the first time

How can therapy with SkyeBlu help?

As a kink-aware therapist, I can offer a safe, judgment-free therapy experience.

You deserve a chance to discover and express yourself without feeling ashamed or stigmatized. I am a firm believer that, with the right support and care, you can become your best self.

I work hard to help you understand your unique complexity: physical, psychological, social, sexual, and spiritual. I operate from a holistic perspective that integrates Person-Centered (or Rogerian) Therapy to help you feel heard, respected, and accepted – you deserve nothing less! My hope is to help you become your true, authentic self.

I also draw from Psychoanalytic theory to understand your unconscious mind and identify patterns and parallels in your life. Sometimes this includes art therapy (drawing mostly), metaphors (bringing a feeling to life), or using a sand tray. We may also dive into mindfulness practices and, and somatic techniques (noticing feelings/sensations in the body) to raise your sense of self-awareness.

As desired, we may also integrate elements of Sex Therapy to help you and your partner(s) with any issues related to sexuality.

No one should feel ashamed of who they are and what they need. You deserve love, acceptance, and support.
